Workshop 2 - Monoblocs, Mobilites, Portable Fill flash and IR Triggering devices

Studio lights
For this image our group tried to recreate a photo we saw in a book. We used 3 studio lights. the main light was to the right of camera and just above eye level casting a triangle of light on the far side of the nose, Rembrandt style. We didn't want this to be too prominant so our fill was placed to the left of camera and close by at eye level, this filled in our deep shadows and we achieved a 3:1 lighting ratio. The background light was set at 2 stops under the main, just enough to give texture and shadow to the background and also separate her head head.

Portable lights (speed lights)

For this shot we wanted to use speedlights to replicate a portable location light source. for again we used 3 lights, one main on her left reflected against a pice of card to soften the light somewhat. A fill high and to the right shot through a soft box to fill in the shadow detail but leave a shape in her face. The last light was used to light the background, some 20 feet away. This created a seperation of her head and again creates a depth to the image.
